Veneers

Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin “shells” made of fine porcelain, designed to cover the front surface of the teeth to improve the appearance. These veneers are made of highly durable tooth coloured porcelain, carefully bonded to the front surface of the teeth. The translucency of the porcelain  brings a highly natural result, making porcelain veneers one of the most popular treatments when it comes to cosmetic dentistry.

Why have  porcelain veneers?

  • To give a natural shade to discoloured teeth. Ageing and smoking are two contributing factors to heavily stained or discolored teeth. When whitening is not the option, porcelain veneers can be used to give a brighter, whiter appearance.
  • To restore the function and appearance of chipped or cracked teeth.
  • To correct minor misaligned teeth and close gaps between teeth giving your smile a more uniform appearance.
  • To correct teeth that have an irregular shape, teeth that are either  too small, or too large. You can create a more balanced smile by reshaping these irregularly shaped teeth.

How does it work?

Step 1- Consultation with the dentist

Step 2- We take impressions  for your “try in” smile. That means you will get a glimpse of how your smile will look with veneers. Together with your dentist you will create the result you are looking for.

Step 3- Preparation of the teeth. At Bell Yard Dental we make porcelain veneers as minimally invasive as possible. If needed, the dentist removes a small amount of enamel to make room for the veneers. Impressions of the teeth are being taken, used to create your custom-made veneers in a dental lab.

Step 4- The dentist carefully bonds the veneers on the front surface of the teeth.

…….and SMILE!

How do I take care of my veneers?

  • As with natural teeth, practising good oral hygiene is key. Brush your teeth twice a day and floss daily to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
  • Avoid sticky and hard food. Although porcelain veneers are made of strong material, they can still chip or crack if you bite down on hard objects or chewy food.
  • Use a soft -bristled toothbrush  and a non-abrasive toothpaste if you want to avoid scratching and damaging the surface of your porcelain veneers.
  • Have regular visits at your dentist to ensure that your teeth, gums and veneers are in good condition and address any problem that may arise.

Can I make my teeth whiter with veneers?
You can make your teeth whiter with veneers, but in the vast majority of cases, teeth can be made whiter using safe tooth whitening techniques that do not involve enamel removal. However whitening does not work in every situation, especially if it is one or two teeth with specific discoloration and the patient has exhausted the conservative options, then veneers may indeed be a suitable option to obtain the desired outcome.
